We are doing great. My arms are hurting a bit from hoeing and raking for hours the past two days, but the first mixed greens and spinach are planted outside! All transplants are on schedule and seeds are ready to be planted. We are a bit later seeding outside due to late snow melt and rain, but I hope the next few weeks will make up for it with warm sunshine? I got the garlic covered with hay just before it poked up. $400lb bales were a bit heavy to push to unroll. I put on my super woman t-shirt and it was much easier.
The next exciting thing is that I went to pick up the high tunnel ( greenhouse) pieces on Tuesday. I had rented a 17' truck to meet the supplier, a small farm in NH at Rouses Point. It was good to be out on the road rather that trying to till after all that rain Monday night. We got the hight tunnel through a grant and it has to be finished before June to get reimbursed. I have been reading the manual several times to get familiar with the process. It is gonna be a big job.
Just now I am waiting for students to come to dig sunchokes before they sprout in the warming soil. The cows are happy lying in the sun, munching hay. I had to get more hay, they are eating a lot. Where is the grass? The guinea pigs are outside too. They wait at night to be brought back inside, no hunting for them in the dark so far.
Please take a minute and sign up for the 2015 veggie season. I am attaching the form. And the form for bonus bucks if you are low income.
Happy spring!
