Kira and I got back from Germany last Saturday. We had a great time, saw lots of family and friends. It was 45 degrees when we left. I met some College friends I had not seen in 18 years. Fun fun fun.
Back here I have been working on organic certification papers and taxes. Also the local farmers Coop is suspending operations, because we lost slaes last year and have no mnore cushion to run until new crops come in. I am on the board of NCGC and it is sad to see that even with trying all different ways there seems to be no way to be profitable. The other farmers coop in Ithaca FLO also closed up this spring. So I am sorting out what to do this year. Lots of seeds are bought and Ian and Jeremy are planning to come back to farm for another season. We hope to do more CSA shares with you all.
Tomorrow is national CSA sign up day and here is our brand new 2015 CSA info with application, just in time. There is an early bird discount before March 12 and a late fee for sign up after April 30th. We are planning on putting up a 100'x 21' high tunnel in the field that will be used for earlier tomatoes, greens and better peppers and late kale.... So may possibilities. The volunteering is not required anymore. We have not been good about making it happen. It is a great way to connect at get a glimpse of each others lifes and I hope that many of you will still come to the garlic festival or help other days.
Please let me know if you are not planning to sign up or if you do not want to receive our newsletters anymore. Or if you have friends who want to join.
News:
The cows were overjoyed to see us again. Daisy' s horns have grown in a bit more and Carol is still the boss of the two. We started tying Daisy up during milking time to get her used to it and she is taking it well. Tonight she got herself tangled and when I got up from milking to help her Carol stepped into the bucket. oh puh.
Steve also overjoyed to have us back has a Latin dance party planned for Friday March 20th. I am attaching a flyer. It is good to be back.
The guinea pigs are happy to get funny beets and carrots and like sitting on my lap. Teacup is a bit shy.
It looks like I will sit around a bit more as winter is still going strong. At least the gained weight insulates well.. Those German chocolates and bread were so good. May be we go skiing this weekend.
I hope you are doing well. May be we see each other at the Latin Dance party.
peace, Dulli
