have you heard yet, that we have a cow? Her name is Carol and she is a six year old Jersey from the biodynamic Kawecki farm. She is a sweetheart and Kira loves her. The cow follows Kira and licks her, Kira follows the cow and brushes her every day. We are busy milking and coming up with ways to use the milk. So far we made butter, quark ( a german soft cheese), pudding, yogurt and mozzarella. For the hard cheeses I need more time and not go away for the weekends.
We went to Crow fest a music festival on an organic farm in Keeseville and had a good hang out with Ian Sal and Jeff. Camping next to a large field of arugula and mixed greens, a fun thing to do , not just work together. Ian went back to college and Miguel will go back to school next week. That means more work for Zach, Sal and me until the St. awrence students come at the end of September. There are so many beans to pick. You are getting Mixed Greens when we have plenty and are short on lettuce, a bonus for your loyalty. We are between potato plantings for another week or so. The tomatoes are starting to pick up and the carrots are getting sweeter. I hope you can keep up with your boxes, let me know if there is too much or not enough of anything. We are giving out twice the amount of onions because we don't know if they will keep in the winter since they got leek moth in them. The garden is a bit weedy, they do that in August when we get tired of weeding, but the crops are looking good and are growing fast. |
Peace,
Dulli
