it is Monday morning t the best day of the work week, ready to go for the week. I did a lot of field preparation to transplant brassicas (broccoli, cauliflower, kale...) and first beans this week. I had some friends help, wanting to garden this weekend and ended up to get a lot done. We should start harvesting Mixed Greens from the caterpillar tunnel later this week. In the picture you can see the difference of greens under the tunnel versus outside the tunnel.
Nick and I are getting to know each other through hours of field prep and weeding, sharing stories and life. Sometimes time flies by in conversation and all the greens are weeded! If there weren't the black flies eating us it would be perfect.
This week Emma will join us to lighten our load on heavy field work. She is a CSA specialist, who ran a CSA by herself in Vermont last year and worked for High Mowing Seed for the winter. So you might hear from her directly this summer. Gardening is so much easier , not trying to get everything in before June first, as last year before our travels.
The tomatoes got slight frost damage Saturday night, while sitting outside the greenhouse to harden off. I went home 10.30pm and did not think it would get so cold. It will set them back a week or so. Fortunately the high-tunnel tomatoes are doing very well. And they should produce early.
Steve and Kira are in their last week of school and are ready for summer break. Then I am off the house keeping and Kira morning duties and can frolic full in the gardens. I want to thank you all for signing up again this year and you few stragglers, please sign up this week. I will contact you individually to make sure the e-mails don't go into the automatic recycle bin.
Have a wonderful week,
Dulli
