just a few words before the day in the fields start. It is hot out there! 95F is a challenge for the heavy work of preparing fields for fall planting. We are trying to be done by two pm and part time people can go home and I can take a break till afternoon. I actually went to a 4th of July party yesterday at Taylor park with friends, swimming and good food. Also we serve watermelon (not our own yet) on hot days to all.
We got the last 1000' of carrots in, working on more beans and spinach. The pea harvest also picked up after almost no peas last year, due to wood chuck munching. I had forgotten the long fun hours of picking 90lb of peas in a day. Fortunately we have a good and motivated crew to pick through it. Beans are flowering and beets are fattening up.
Here is the most exciting news for next week:
Up on request by Emma who works here in her second year we are hosting the first"Dinner In The Field" here at the farm in the middle of our gardens. It will be cooked by Big Spoon and will feature Birdsfoot veggies and salad . The price is $25 including tax and proceeds will go to Big Spoon for labor and a Birdsfoot workers bonus. We are planning a long table with seating for 20-40 people. We will serve Ice tea, you can bring your own beverage if you like. Date is next Wednesday 7/11/18 at5.30pm. Please pay up front with Big Spoon. They have it all set up.
I better go and harvest so the greens don't get too hot.
Stay cool,
Dulli
