you probably think I got eaten by a giant hog weed or something. Well, I have been so busy. The gardens are looking great. Everything seems on schedule even with the cold wet spring. The peas are 4" tall and we got the trellis up for them last week. on top of the regular seedlings of spinach, greens, carrots... we are pushing hard to get all the transplants form February sown celeriac to March sown peppers, tomatoes to April sown brassicas and zucchinis in. These babies all lived in the Hugging House for the first part of their lives and then got transferred to the greenhouse and eventually hardened off in the cold frame before planting outside. That is a lot of moving and watering.
We moved Carol the cow and Felix the calf to their summer residence across the road where they have lots of fresh grass. Jeff is doing the morning milking and I had a few days off until Carol got mastitis in one of her quarters. She had upped her milk from two to three gallons a day and needed more then one milking a day. The cure for that is frequent, every two hours milking and a udder salve. So from not to have to do any cows for a few days I am now milking three times a day. She is much better and her milk is going up again. We milk the one quarter separate to have good milk from the others. So I had to get up at 6am to start the day because I am the only milker home for this weekend. I then did a bit of gardening while I was up before having a cozy weekend with the family hanging out and working on the cabin.
That is why you have not heard from me in a while.
