today is the last Winter CSA pick up for the season. Kira and I are going to Germany tomorrow. I spent January doing payroll taxes, going through seeds and ordering new seed, doing bookkeeping, fixing the fence. The dear made it into the garden and ate all the kale that had 5 leaves to over winter. I found a pliers/crimp tool that clamps little rings and was able to crimp the entire fence length around the garden in two hours. It was amazing to see where they had made little slip through between the upper and lower fence to get to the goodies.
Today's potatoes are Daisy Gold, one of our favorites. We found them eight years ago when we were part of a potato trial for organic growers. They are finally grown by organic seed growers, so we can get them if our plants are not good enough for seed stock. We save 80% of our own potatoes, all of our own tomatoes seed, pepper seed and most of our winter squash seed this year. Some years we are able to save pea and bean seed. (8% of our bought seed is certified organic. We get untreated non-GMO seed if needed for disease resistance or taste in a few cases.
I hope you enjoyed the veggies s much as we do here.
See you in March,
peace, Dulli
